Air Travel Tips
Air travel can be a hassle, and anything but relaxing, but we’ve got some tips on how to make the most of your time in the air, so you can worry less and travel more.
Comfy Layered Clothing
It’s important to wear comfy clothes when flying. You’re in a cramped area for a long time, and the last thing you need is your clothing squeezing you or leaving painful imprints on your skin when you’re already uncomfortable. Soft, comfy clothes like leisure wear or athletic suits are ideal. If you wouldn’t take a nap in it at home, don’t wear it on a plane. But comfort doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice fashion! These days there’s plenty of stylish options out there that will let you look and feel good. It’s also a good idea to dress in layers. The temperature on a plane won’t please everyone; you may feel too hot or too cold, so a hoodie or jacket with a shirt underneath can go a long way. Being able to put pieces on or off will help you stay cool or warm, and it’s also helpful if you happen to spill something on yourself!

Smart Carry Ons
When you’re stuck on a plane for a long time, you want to have things to do at your disposal, but you also want to conserve space. It’s a good idea to pack small, smart carry on bags. Keep your chargers, medication, and hand sanitizer in one place. Have an overnight flight? Slip in a sleeping mask and a good pair of ear plugs. Don’t forget a good travel pillow to save your neck. Noise cancelling headphones work great too; basically, you want to keep everything you might need easily accessible so you won’t disrupt your neighbors or have to worry about finding something later on.

Seating Chart Matters
Choosing the right seat on a plane is vital, based on your individual needs. Are you someone who gets antsy or prefers to be up and moving? Secure an aisle seat; you’ll be able to walk up and down the length of the plane without disrupting anyone (provided the seatbelt light is off!) and have a little extra space to shift around. The aisle seat is also great for someone with gastrointestinal issues, or a weak bladder. On the other hand, if you’re comfortable sitting still for a long time, or just want to sleep the time away, a window seat is more appropriate for you. You’ll be able to relax and rest without being asked to get up or move, and you can enjoy the view while soaring in the sky.
Happy Snacking
These days, it’s common for airlines to allow people to bring food or drink onto the plane. But what sort of foods should you bring? Fresh fruit or vegetables, or other small snacks that you can graze on throughout the flight are best. Avoid foods with heavy odors, it’s impolite to chow on some fishy food in a cabin without windows that open. It’s also prudent to think about common food allergies. You may love peanut butter, but you could be sitting next to someone who is allergic. The last thing you want is to put another person at risk. Save the Reese’s cups for your hotel room! Staying hydrated is equally as important as staying full. Get yourself a refillable water bottle for the trip!

Other Tips
If you know you have a long flight ahead of you, it’s worth exercising the day before. Keep your body in motion and get that heart pumping, so you’ll be more comfortable and willing to take it easy on the plane.
Avoid in-flight WIFI costs by preparing your entertainment beforehand. Download movies or videos to your devices before you get on the plane, so you’ll be able to watch them without interruption (or fees) on the plane. E-books or articles are a great idea too, and of course, analog entertainment is always available too. Pack a physical book, or maybe a small notebook to write or doodle in!
If you get nauseous easily, look into bringing some ginger candy or drinking ginger ale on the flight. It’ll help settle your stomach! Cough drops or gum are good to bring too, if you’re worried about dry air. Don’t forget the chapstick!
